Ross Castle offers a stunning backdrop overlooking the shores of Lough Leane. It is easily accessible, with complimentary parking and only a 5 minute drive from The Killarney Oaks Hotel. Walk around the shore of the lake, admire the boats, the sunning façade of the castle and you can even feed the ducks and the swans. From the lake shore you can hire a boat to visit Innisfallon Island and take a tour of the beautiful Lake of Killarney.

Torc Waterfall is situated on the Muckross Road, at the Base of Torc Mountain and just 300 metres from the conveniently located car park. The fall is 20m high and is best viewed after a heavy rain fall, which luckily is a regular occurrence here in Killarney! Immediately to the left of the waterfall is steps, climb these 100 steps and be rewarded by a beautiful view of the surrounding lakes.

Muckross Abbey is situated in the National Park and a short walk from the car park. It a stunning, well-preserved ruin including a church with a wide, square tower and fine windows, and a vaulted cloister with an arcade of arches around a square courtyard. In the middle of the courtyard grows an ancient yew tree, said traditionally to be as old as the Abbey. On the grounds on the Abbey, there is a burial ground which is still in use today and is said to be the burial ground of the O’ Donoghue Chieftains.

The Gap of Dunloe is visible for miles around, resting between the highest mountains in Ireland and Purple mountain and Tomies mountains, it has been attracting attention for centuries. A trip through the Gap and down to the Black Valley allows you to take in the breath-taking beauty of the lakes, rock formations and the local flora and fauna. You also have the option to cycle through The Gap and the Black Valley down to Lord Brandons Cottage and just rent a boat ride through the beautiful lakes and back to Ross Castle. For those who seek adventure, the climb to the summit of Carrauntoohil, Irelands highest mountain at 1,039m is one of the most rewarding in Ireland. It over looks 3 u shaped valleys, each with their own lakes for spectacular views when you reach the summit.

Skellig Michael and the Skellig Islands are 12 km) off the coast from Portmagee, Kerry (just off the Ring of Kerry route). Rising majestically from the sea, Skellig Michael, now famous from the recent Star Wars films, climbs 700ft above sea level. At the top, you will find a well preserved sixth-century monastic settlement. From Skellig Michael, the larger of the two Islands, you have great views of the coast of Kerry, Little Skelligs which is famous for its huge Bird population on the Island. From May until early August you have the Spectacular Puffins on both Islands along with many other types of Birds. On a lucky day, you can also see Dolphins and Whales from the Island and from the Boat.
